                             “Bringing together the girls in Bangalore to make a difference”

Hi,
my name is Sowmya I am an architect by profession working in Bangalore and basically from Mysore . It’s been 3 years since I have come to Bangalore to work.

My intention of sending this mail is to let people know about a community project that I am doing as part of my Landmark Education.

Project Idea:

Once, one of my friends was waiting for a bus near St. Marks road after her office, one guy suddenly stopped by her and asked her how much?...
when my friend explained the incident to me I was really shocked, as I had an entirely different image about Bangalore. I was taken aback by the image of a girl that is perceived, “If a girl standing alone she would be recognized as a call girl by most of the people". Is that all we can be known and recognized as???

Another friend of mine, while traveling in a city bus, the guy who standing behind started misbehaving with her, even though she is a bold enough to stand against him, his behavior scared her…….

As I heard more such incidents from many other friends, in all the incidents I realized that if my friends were not alone, instead had one more friend with her, those guys wouldn’t have dared to think of misbehaving. If there are two girls standing, sitting, talking instead of one, it gives so much more strength and also it takes more effort and courage for guys to approach them…..This led to the initialization of my project.

Have you noticed that it so easy to relate to a person wearing a ID card from the same company as ours or is speaking the same mother tongue or is discussing a familiar subject. It is easy to talk to them or to ask for any help or to sit next to them while we waiting for bus or auto...etc.

It is true that there will be more than one girl in a bus stand or inside bus or on the roads, but we hesitate to talk to other girl or to ask for help when any body misbehaves in any manner. This project will helps us to bridge gap between girls, to support each other, or to help other girl if she is in trouble....as we r under same project.

As a community project, this is an opportunity for us to come together and bond. Where we [college going girls and working girls ] will be registered to get one common recognition and this will allow us to recognize another girl who is also under this project, further will also help us to support each other in need. The process will also include each registered person’s ID being signed by the Police Commissioner of Bangalore .
